Shopping

The local shops sell a fantastic selection of regional specialities as well as everyday necessities. Even the supermarkets have local, seasonal produce, something Tesco and Sainsburys should learn about! However this part of Italy is still in a bit of a time warp, where the importance of family time still has a high priority, and rightly so. But as a result, most shops are closed on Sundays?? and Monday mornings although there will usually be one or two shops and a chemist to supply any emergencies.

Food

The local olive oil mill, Ravagni, has a shop in Anghiari but visitors can still go to the actual mill and see where the oil is made and sample some of their wares. The family-run business uses a traditional stone mill and a cold press to produce its wonderful oil, which is reputed to have health-giving properties as the oil is not damaged by heating.

You will be invited to taste the oil in the typical Tuscan way with chunks of unsalted bread to dip in to the different oils. They have virgin oil including 'Mosto' which is the best of the virgin oils. They also have a range of infused oils; garlic, truffle and lemon being our favourites, and produce honey, wine, jams and the local fortified wine; Vin Santo. Children and adults love dunking their way through the different flavours but don't go before lunch as they are very generous with their samples, including the wine!
